It's a decent jump 'n' run, but things got weird when I got to the ladybug. First of all the second part of the dialogue got immediately shown before I had a chance to read the first part. After that whenever I fell downward I was blind since the level was replaced by some grey stuff, probably not intentional? Here's a screenshot in case you don't know what I am talking about:https://www.newgrounds.com/dump/item/207a19d21f9d8340237e72824e0564f9

Mations responds:

i will try to fix it, thanks

It looks pretty great (the lighting effects really work well). I like the bullet reflection mechanic, as it gives you an incentive to not just spam shots all the time. I cannot figure out what planting shrooms is supposed to do (other than slightly draining your life). The effect of dashing feels pretty weak. Right now the game feels pretty difficult, it's mainly the spreadshot enemies that give me a lot of trouble, I have only made it to the second floor so far because of them.

Tycro-Games responds:

Well it is too hard, and we are going yo make it easier in the next version, the shrooms are useful when you are in a big dungeon and it is hard to not get lost. Glad you told us what is wrong.

First of all I think you are off to a good start. I think you could turn this game into a fun shooter. The movement and shooting controls feel natural.
What I don't like is how quickly you run out of health by time just passing. I understand that you want the game to be fast paced, but the way it is now it feels frustrating for me. Combined with the life steal mechanic it took some time for me to figure out how the game even works because I died so quickly.
Dodging the individual enemy attacks feels almost impossible, I just randomly circle around them in the hopes of avoiding getting hit. This combined with the enemies all looking the same (I cannot distinguish their weapons in such a fast paced game) gives me the feeling I cannot really do much more than killing them as quick as possible without much tactics - and randomly insta die due to a shotgun blast sometimes.
The weapons feel a bit unbalanced, the uzi feels far superior to the other weapons while the song/dance item feels useless. Maybe you could turn the song into an insta kill all enemys effect that is independend from your current weapon?

3amsoda responds:

thanks for the feedback! to start I think Im going to add a bit of invincibility after you get hit to help with getting instakilled by shotgun blasts, then Ill take a look at making the enemy weapons more visible.

The weapons are unbalanced but that's intentional because the weapons are available to you randomly during the run so you don't always get to choose which one you get to use.

Some dialogues are really enjoyable, especially the Leon Davine interactions.
Sometimes the characters feel a bit off though, for example when their compaions die even Leon and Medoka seem to be surprisingly calm. I know they are doing their best to deal with the situation rationally, but for me it feels like they are almost as unaffectedby it as Laura.

Graphics look pretty awesome, however disinguishing the background and foreground from the actual level takes quite some time to get into, i recommend you change that.
When you get hurt "respawning" sometimes leads to rather awkward situations, i fould myself in perma jumping respawn circles, i think it got caused my me keeping the jump key pressed after "dying", which meant I instantaniously jumped after i respawned, you could change it that jumpkey presses don't count for future jumps if you die.
Also for me it feels like you respawn a bit too close to obstacles, something feels weird about that, i think the problem is not knowing when exactly you start moving again so it's hard to react.

HelperWesley responds:

I may need to darken the background more, or change the colors a bit to help with the background issue.

Another person brought that up in playtesting, but I couldn't replicate it in engine, so I honestly don't know why that is a thing.... But disabling jump while you're still flashing might actually be the fix.

That last one is probably a skill thing, I played it so much while building it I knew the pathing. It probably needs to be tweaked for newcomer players.
